The "Dediyagala Falls" is a location created due to a dam built using black stones and concrete through human labor in the 1890s. It begins from the Dediyagala Reserve and spans both banks of the Digili Oya near the Ahalape Grama Niladhari Division. This dam, constructed as part of the grand irrigation system, causes the river's water to accumulate and flow down in a manner that beautifully showcases the charm of a waterfall. The dam is approximately 25 meters long and 6 meters high.
Owing to its exceptional beauty, this site is considered one of the most picturesque locations in the Matara District, attracting large numbers of both Sri Lankans and foreign tourists. The Digili Oya waterfall has gained prominence among locals and foreigners alike, as its beauty leaves a lasting impression on everyone who visits. The natural rock formations around the Dediyagala Falls further enhance its breathtaking appeal, making it an unforgettable sight for all visitors.
Under the 2024 Hill Country Decade Development Program initiated by the Akuressa Divisional Secretariat, funds were allocated to promote tourism in the Maliduwa region. Efforts have been made to develop this site for tourism, and it is currently operated under the supervision of tour guides.
